Corners of the Gorge

from A$175.00

The Katherine River winds its way through Nitmiluk National Park, carving a remarkable network of gorges that cut deep into the sandstone country. These waterways shift and turn through the landscape, each bend revealing a new perspective.

While the first eight gorges are accessible by boat, kayak, or on foot, the system extends to thirteen in total - each angled almost perpendicular to the last, shaped over millennia by the force of floodwaters sculpting the cliffs.

Captured here in the afternoon light from Jeddah’s Leap, this view looks into the third gorge. Ochre columns frame the scene, leading the eye toward the deep green water below. In the shade the rocks take on a soft, purple hue, while the opposing cliffs glow warm and bright in the sun - a striking contrast that defines this ancient landscape.
