Golden Nightcliff
A dazzling golden sunset over the mangroves of Nightcliff Foreshore, the warm light providing the perfect illumination on the ochre rock shelf.
This area, close to Nightcliff Jetty, is somewhere I could explore daily - finding a different composition every time. On a receding tide, the rockpools that remain provide a variety of shapes, reflections and patterns. The mangroves standing strong somehow, despite the lack of sand or mud! On an incoming tide, I always have to take care not to be surrounded by the ocean - this is an area I’ve found myself on an island, 20m or more from the shoreline! The flat shelf of rock, dotted with pools, fills up surprisingly quickly!
I will never not be in awe of these tropical trees around our coastline. Their shape and slow growth seems to add to the feeling of respect for their resilience and determination. Even being so close to the suburbs and our urban structures, it’s easy to lose yourself here in the natural world!
