Glowing Glen Helen - Vivid Territory Collection (Limited Edition) - "Territory Red" Series

from A$225.00

Any sunrise shoot in the bush is always a gamble. With no access to the internet and no knowledge of weather or cloud level, clambering out of my tent at 4:30am is always a bit difficult when there is no guarantee of spectacular light!

Combine that with the cold temperatures of Autumn in Central Australia, and the fact that I had to walk a few hundred metres on a track I wasn’t familiar with in the pitch black (after a recent experience with dingos prowling around me at 4am on a previous morning!).... It was definitely an effort to get this shot!

On arriving at Glen Helen gorge around 45 minutes before sunrise, I played around with different compositions whilst I waited for the sun to come up. I ended up finding my favourite spot with plenty of time! Unfortunately for me, it ended up that I had set the tripod up in the middle of the waterhole of Glen Helen gorge and I was standing in very, very cold water up to my waist. I didn’t want to risk losing my spot, so there I stood… attacked by mosquitos, freezing cold whilst I waited to see if the sun was going to create a show.

As the low light before sunrise began to creep up, I wasn’t feeling optimistic - the cloud was heavy. A brief pink glow and the pretty colour disappeared. Checking my watch, I knew I still had a few minutes before the sun actually peaked over the horizon behind me. I decided to wait…. What was 5 more minutes!? And I am so glad I did. The red glow of the sun appeared for literally about 2 minutes. Time for me to capture a couple of shots where the vibrant red cliffs of the gorge were brilliantly illuminated red - with a perfectly contrasting deep blue backdrop. The light quickly faded to grey… and I went to defrost and eat breakfast, happy that my efforts paid off this time!

As a summary,

Rolled Fine Art Prints are pretty much what they say on the tin! A high quality, archive photographic paper which arrives rolled in a tube for you to frame in your desired frame type.

Canvas prints arrive ready to hang and are stretched around a wooden frame with a mirror wrapped edge.

Aluminium prints also arrive ready to hang with a "shadow mount" on the reverse. These are high definition, waterproof and scratch resistant.

Custom sizing by request.

Framing also by request. I handmake all of my own frames, but due to shipping challenges I prefer to keep these for a local pick up option. I can package and ship frames, but the cost will need to be organised on a case by case basis. I also often bring in different frames to try regularly so please get in touch if you'd like to see some current frame choices. Otherwise, please come and see them for yourself at the Waterfront Gallery!
