Daybreak Reaches the Mountains (From Counts Point)  (Limited Edition - Larapinta Light Collection)

from A$125.00

At 1120m elevation, Counts Point is one of the highest points along the Heavitree Range, offering one of the most iconic vistas of the whole Larapinta Trail.

The lookout offers hikers from Alice Springs their first glimpse of Mount Sonder, shown here as the rear peak in the image. There is really only one small area of flat ground on the summit in which to pitch a tent - and I was lucky enough to get it! Sunrise from Counts Point was easily one of my favourite mornings on the whole trail.

Quietly watching the changing light from around 30 minutes before dawn, from darkness to soft pinks and yellow through to the first red rays hitting the mountains.

This image is classic Larapinta Trail to me. This is the landscape! From the low valleys to mountain tops - on repeat! Much of the route traverses the kinds of ridgetops shown in the photo… along the spines of mountains where it seems impossible for a trail to go!
