A little about me and my story....

I have selling my photography as prints since I began setting up my stall at Mindil Beach Markets in 2011. I have slowly learnt how to frame my own work, and over time have expanded my gear and skills to the gallery you see today! Photography has been my full time income since 2014 and I’m extremely grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way - hopefully you have seen one of my “pop ups” somewhere over the last few years!

Originally I'm from a town in the UK called Stourbridge, I studied at the University of Sheffield and afterwards decided to take a Gap “Year” to Australia and Asia. I travelled for around 18 months before I arrived in Darwin and I instantly fell in love with the place! The lifestyle – the weather, the un-spoilt natural beauty, the people, the atmosphere…  My “Gap Year” never ended… I left the UK in 2008…. and have been in Darwin since 2009…. hopefully I'm nearly a local?!

Where Photography came in…

I’ve been lucky enough to have seen some absolutely spectacular parts of this country.  I decided to teach myself how to capture landscape photos to truly reflect my location. It was time to upgrade my “point and shoot” and I bought a Canon 450D. That’s where the practice (addiction!) began – many, many hours of exploring, shooting and learning.

Nowadays, there is less travel interstate as I run the business here in Darwin which takes a lot of time. However, the Top End region is a huge source of inspiration for me - I have learned so much about the local flora and fauna, and there is still so much to learn. I’m constantly inspired by our skies, wildlife and rugged natural beauty - there is an endless environment to explore.

I feel incredibly luck to be living in a place I love – the Top End is a photographer’s paradise.  It’s also a paradise for bushwalkers, campers and swimmers - and all are things I love... Darwin and I are a great fit!

I am regularly asked when is my favourite time to photograph, and without a doubt it is the wet season. There are many reasons for this: great skies (clouds and storms equal more dramatic light and better contrast), more water in the falls, a greener landscape and less people! However, access can be restricted by road in some areas and we do get periods of constant rain which can put a dampener on any outings!

My current photography gear…

  • Canon 5DSr
  • Canon 11-24mm f4 L
  • Canon 16-35mm f4 L
  • Canon 24-105mm f4 L
  • Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS II L
  • Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3 Di VC
  • I use Lee Graduated Neutral Density Filters, a Lee Polariser, and a Sirui tripod.

I also have a remote shutter (which I could not live without!) and a lightning trigger.
That’s about it.
Now, if I were to list what I would like to add to my gear…. We would be here until next week. So I’ll stop here!

A little note from me, and a big thank you so much for taking the time to check out my website and images. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love taking them.
